Kailey Gonzalez Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville and Braselton Campus, Intern
My name is Kailey Gonzalez. I am a senior at Flowery Branch High School, and my passion is assisting patients in the medical field. When I first began my journey, I interned at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Braselton Campus. While I did love the how new the hospital was, I found it a bit slow and lacked the rush I desired. This was when I requested to transfer to the Gainesville Campus. I meant my mentor Leigh Wilson and loved it there. I enjoyed the adrenaline that each day produced. My mentor was amazing. Even though her days were extremely busy, she took time to teach me, let me learn hands on, and even ask questions. She truly cared if I was enjoying myself and helped me to discover my future occupation. Durning my time in the Emergency Room, I assisted my mentor in normal tasks such as providing medicine and taking vitals, to sitting in on a trauma. As I became more comfortable at my mentorship, I completed some tasks on my own to help my mentor such as taking urine same, acquiring vitals, spiking fluids, and even assisting in opening infections to be treated. At my mentorship, I was able to encounter traumas and learn different occupations the medial field offered. From my mentorship, I have learned what the atmosphere of a busy Emergency Room is like, and learned that I love it. My mentorship not only taught me protocols and patent care, but always how to deal with high risk situations and multitasking. My mentorship helped me to determine my future occupation. Without this amazing opportunity through the Honors Mentorship Program, I would have never been able to conduct in depth research on a career path I did not know existed (Physician's Assistant) that I know how to be. Working in the Emergency Room has provided me with an abundant amount of experience that can help with my future occupation. From my mentorship, not only have I realized what I want to be in life, but I have discovered that caring for others over myself is my true passion.
